“Menopause Rhapsody:” Your New Favorite Song about Menopause
Menopause makes women do some crazy things, including, apparently, writing the world’s best parody of the 1975 Queen hit, Bohemian Rhapsody, called Menopause Rhapsody.
The Queen of Parodies Makes a Menopause Parody
New Zealand based content creator, Shirley Serban, the queen of making parody videos (pun intended) created Menopause Rhapsody in 2021 after successfully making a slew of COVID inspired parody videos to help people survive lockdown. As a self-described “grumpy hot potato,” it was only a matter of time before she penned a parody song about living through the bloody hell known as (peri)menopause.
We Need More Songs About Menopause
This is how Serban introduced Menopause Rhapsody in the description on her YouTube page. “A rhapsody is an epic, episodic, highly emotional work. To be Bohemian is to be socially unconventional. Isn't that combination the perfect description for a woman frustrated by menopause?” And here’s just one stanza from her on-point lyrics:
“Mama, it's menopause
No more children can be bred
Now my ovaries are dead
Mama, no, it's not much fun
I once was hot
In quite a different way!”
For a song about menopause, it really hits all of the high notes! This is definitely going on the top of my list of favorite menopause songs. But, let’s be real, other than the soundtrack to Menopause the Musical, are there any other menopause songs? Should there be more?
Check out the video below and tell me this isn’t the most hilarious thing you’ve seen all day about menopause. Thank you Shirley Serban for making me laugh.
